In our backyard, our grass would never never grow. We have a huge maple tree that seems to suck the life out of the grass. The grass is dry, hard dead and lumpy!! Making it no fun to play on! We never sat on the lawn, played on it or enjoyed it!!
So after 12 years of trying (and spending a fortune) on getting the grass to grow, we decided to give up and build a deck right on top of it!!
The edges have to be trimmed evenly, but here is the now completed deck! It took about 4 weekends to complete and everyone had a hand in helping out.
This is entering our backyard..
and these 2 are from the back of the yard, by the play structure.
We absolutely love it!
We've eaten every meal possible out there, had a BBQ party last night with 6 other couples and 7 kids, and almost every evening we've enjoyed a glass of wine with candles lit around the deck!
SO NICE! We should of done this years ago.
It opens up our back yard by about 50% !!

I love it! What a good idea as we have a similar problem with not so great grass.
